A photograph in my day calendar a couple of years ago caught my eye and burned its image into my memory. It was the photo of ice on a window seen at night with enough of the ice melted to reveal the leaf-like structures of the ice crystals. It was an exciting challenge to try a painter’s pointilist approach to the colors, mixing them randomly to achieve an overall effect. By using bold asymmetry I tried to create the illusion of the ice melting.
